THE UNCLE PETE SHOW CLASSIC PUNK SPECIAL – PART VII – (8/15/95)!!!

THE UNCLE PETE CLASSIC PUNK SPECIAL – PART VII –  AUGUST 15, 1995!!! (COMPLETE SHOW)

Here’s The Uncle Pete Classic Punk Special – Part VII (“Lucky 7!”), originally airing on August 15, 1995 on WHRW, 90.5 FM.  The seventh Classic Punk Special on The Uncle Pete Show, once again, it featured exclusively music in a punk-type vein that was over 10 years old. So all the songs were released prior to 1985.  More new bands and more new songs!  And since this was “Lucky 7” we showcased a bunch of greatest hits from the previous 6 Classic Punk Specials!  More local bands on this show too including Binghamton’s own Devestation Masters, Teenage Head (Buffalo), Genetic Invasion (Binghamton, single), Wreck’N Crew (Cortland, single), and the mysterious and heavily requested Karma Fairies (Conklin, NY), a band that sent me one song – and a great song – on a cassette and then disappeared from the face of the Earth!!!  Six more hours of punk bringing the total number of different bands played on the first seven specials close to 400!

Originally mastered straight to 4 cassette tapes, there are 4 audio files, one for each tape.  (The short blank in the middle of the audio files is where the tapes were flipped from side A to side B.)  This year also features more songs they won’t let me play any more like the Anti Nowhere League’s love song “Woman”.  Plus, there was a timely song that just made the cut for this year’s show by the Pop-O-Pies – “Truckin'” that some just dead Dead guy had also played and a perennial favorite love song on The Uncle Pete Show – Heathen Dan with “I Like”.

I’ll probably upload one more U.P.S. Classic Punk Special next week.  It’s looking more and more certain that there will NOT be any Uncle Pete Shows on the air this summer as the WHRW studios may not reopen until at least this Fall.  I haven’t decided what, if anything, I will do if this does happen (maybe the Uncle Pete Show as sort of a weekly podcast or something like that or maybe nothing if there’s enough interest in me doing that.  We’ll see what happens.  Let me know what you think (message me at Facebook or e-mail me at my gmail account at unclepeteshow at gmail.com)

There’s a playlist for the whole show at Uncle Pete Official on Facebook. More Classic Punk Specials will be coming soon!!!

THE UNCLE PETE SHOW CLASSIC PUNK SPECIAL – PART VI – (8/16/94)!!!

THE UNCLE PETE CLASSIC PUNK SPECIAL – PART VI –  AUGUST 16, 1994!!! (COMPLETE SHOW)

Here’s The Uncle Pete Classic Punk Special – Part VI (“Boxcars!”), originally airing on August 16, 1994 on WHRW, 90.5 FM.  The sixth Classic Punk Special on The Uncle Pete Show, once again, it featured exclusively music in a punk-type vein that was over 10 years old. So all the songs were released prior to 1984.  More new bands and more new songs!  More local bands on this show too including the first appearance of Binghamton’s own Devestation Masters (tape, Robert Fortner), The Chesterfield Kings (Rochester, single), The Catatonics (Syracuse, tape), Genetic Invasion (Binghamton, single, containing Jeff DaBella), Wreck’N Crew (Cortland, single), and one of Binghamton’s earliest punk bands – Democratic Identity (tape, Robert R Cotten) with a live song recorded on the Court House steps in downtown Binghamton (1978?) – a place that never saw a live punk show before that and may never see a live punk show again!!!  Six hours of punk!  And once again, the only repeat songs from previous Classic Punk Specials (other than the opening and closing themes) are a handful of requests.

The show was recorded straight to 4 cassette tapes so there are 4 audio files, one for each tape.  (The short blank in the middle of the audio files is where the tapes were flipped from side A to side B.)  This year also features more songs they won’t let me play any more like Bad Posture – G.D.M.F.S.O.B. and my favorite Anti Nowhere League song – “So What” from their banned EP.  Lots of requests, lots of new bands and new songs and my favorite Tubes song too – Don’t Touch Me There! Enjoy these while you can – I’ll probably only be uploading a few more.

Also, there’s a good possibility that the WHRW studios may not reopen until at least this Fall which means there might not be any summer Uncle Pete radio.  If this does happen, I may consider doing new Uncle Pete Show as sort of a weekly podcast or something like that if there’s enough interest in me doing that.  We’ll see what happens.  Let me know what you think (message me at Facebook or e-mail me at my gmail account at unclepeteshow at gmail.com

THE UNCLE PETE SHOW CLASSIC PUNK SPECIAL – PART V – (8/16/93)!!!

THE UNCLE PETE CLASSIC PUNK SPECIAL – PART V –  AUGUST 16, 1993!!! (COMPLETE SHOW)

Here’s the fifth installment in the now decades long tradition!  The Uncle Pete Classic Punk Special – Part V, original air date August 16, 1993 on WHRW, 90.5 FM.  The fifth Classic Punk Special on The Uncle Pete Show, once again, it featured exclusively music in a punk-type vein that was over 10 years old. So all the songs were released prior to 1983.  More new bands and more new songs!  A few local-type bands made it into this show – the RBT Band (Binghamton) – Facts and Figures from their single – and the Bashers – The Factory from their single.  Six hours of punk!  And once again, the only repeat songs from previous Classic Punk Specials (other than the opening and closing themes) are a handful of requests.

The show was recorded straight to 4 cassette tapes and the 4 audio files each represent sides A and B of their respective tapes.  Again, there’s a short blank in the middle of the audio files where the tapes were flipped from side A to side B.  This year also features more celebrity station and Uncle Pete Show station IDs from the Ramones and the Talking Heads as well as from the Mazz from Boston and Dave the Cretin in Maine (the state).  Lots and lots of requests – you can hear the phone ringing in the background during most of my breaks!

THE UNCLE PETE SHOW CLASSIC PUNK SPECIAL – PART IV – THE COMPLETION OF THE TRILOGY (COMPLETE SHOW FROM 8/18/92)!!!

THE UNCLE PETE CLASSIC PUNK SPECIAL – PART IV – the Completion Of The Trilogy – AUGUST 18, 1992!!! (COMPLETE SHOW)

Here’s the fourth installment in the now decades long tradition!  It’s The Uncle Pete Classic Punk Special – Part IV – Beyond Time And Space – The Completion OF The Trilogy, original air date August 18, 1992 on WHRW, 90.5 FM.  The fourth Classic Punk Special on The Uncle Pete Show, once again, it featured exclusively music in a punk-type vein that was over 10 years old. So all the songs were released prior to 1982.  The first 3 Classic Punk Specials featured around 300 different songs and 150 different bands and this Special added a whole lot more new bands and songs to that list.  A few local-type bands made it into this show – the Flashcubes (Syracuse), Blotto (Albany), and the RBT Band (Binghamton).  There were also several sing-a-long favorites including the Sex Pistols – “Friggin’ In The Riggin” and the Dead Kennedys – “Nazi Punks”.  By this year, the UPSCPS had settled into a 6 hours format – a length that would stay for quite a number of years.  Once again, the only repeat songs (other than the opening and closing themes) are a handful of requests.

The show was recorded straight to 4 cassette tapes and the 4 audio files each represent sides A and B of their respective tapes.  A technical catastrophe happened between tapes 1 and 2 when the tape deck at WHRW stopped taping for about half an hour.  Fortunately, long-time Uncle Pete friend and fan – Mike Abalienation – was taping out in Radioland and I was able to recover most of that missing part from him.  You’ll hear that patch at the beginning of the second part of this show.  Again, there’s a short blank in the middle of the audio files where the tapes were flipped from side A to side B.  This year also features some celebrity station and Uncle Pete Show station IDs from the Ramones and the Talking Heads as well as from the Mazz from Boston and Dave the Cretin.  And all you local long-time fans, listen for the Adolescents – “Kids Of The Black Hole” going out to everybody that used to live at “Walnut Street”.

THE UNCLE PETE SHOW CLASSIC PUNK SPECIAL – PART III IN 4-D (COMPLETE SHOW FROM 8/14/91)!!!

THE UNCLE PETE CLASSIC PUNK SPECIAL – PART III in 4-D – AUGUST 14, 1991!!! (COMPLETE SHOW)

Here’s the third installment in the now decades long tradition!  It’s The Uncle Pete Classic Punk Special – Part III – in 4-D, original air date August 14, 1991 on WHRW, 90.5 FM.  The third Classic Punk Special on The Uncle Pete Show, once again, it featured exclusively music in a punk-type vein that was over 10 years old. So all the songs were released prior to 1981 (and all were played on vinyl!).  The first 2 Classic Punk Specials set the tone and featured the core of the bands that kicked down a few musical doors in the 70s.  By this 3rd UPSCPS, whole walls were comin’ down and the show expanded from 4 1/2 hours to 6 hours to be able to give time to even more of the lesser known bands and styles.  And once again, this new chapter of The Uncle Pete Show Classic Punk Special contains tons of songs not heard on the first two specials, the only repeats (other than the opening and closing themes) being a handful of requests.

The show was recorded straight to 4 cassette tapes and the 4 audio files each represent sides A and B of their respective tapes.  You may notice a short blank in the middle of the audio files. That’s where the tapes were flipped from side A to side B.  There are even more songs here that have become punk standards and a few that I don’t get to play on the radio anymore (the radio police of the 80s and 90s were far less oppressive) like one of my favorite Iggy and the Stooges songs from Metallic KO that was co-written by Iggy’s mother (as he informs us in the intro).  New bands that made the cut that year included the Cramps, the Circle Jerks, and the Jim Carroll Band.

THE UNCLE PETE SHOW CLASSIC PUNK SPECIAL – PART 2 IN 3-D (COMPLETE SHOW FROM 8/16/90)!!!

THE UNCLE PETE CLASSIC PUNK SPECIAL – PART II in 3-D – AUGUST 16, 1990!!! (COMPLETE SHOW)

Here’s the follow up to the tradition starting show posted last week! A punk panoply of power-filled presents!  It’s The Uncle Pete Classic Punk Special – Part II – in 3-D!, original air date August 16, 1990 – exactly one year after the first Uncle Pete Show Classic Punk Special (U.P.S.C.P.S.) on WHRW, 90.5 FM.   It was a busy week in the local scene with this show the day after Abalienation and D.O.A. played at the Lost Horizon in Syracuse and just a few days before the Elvis Hitler/Babes In Toyland/Gay Bikers On Acid show also at the Lost Horizon.  In fact, this show aired on a Thursday instead of my regular Wednesday night because I was at the D.O.A. show on Wednesday!

This was the second special EVER on The Uncle Pete Show. And in accordance to the official U.P.S. Classic Punk Special rules, once again, it featured exclusively music in a punk-type vein that was over 10 years old. So all the songs were released prior to 1980.  Another 4 1/2 hours extravaganza, this edition of The Uncle Pete Show Classic Punk Special has tons of songs not heard on the first special, the only repeats (other than the opening and closing themes) being a handful of requests.

The show was recorded straight to 3 cassette tapes and these installments represent sides A and B of all three tapes. You’ll notice a blank in the middle of the audio files. That’s where the tapes were flipped from side A to side B. There are more songs that have become punk standards and a few more you may not hear very often.  Like some from local and upstate NY bands New Math (from Rochester) and the lost-but-not-forgotten Cortland, NY band Wreck’N Crew.

There’s a playlist for all 3 parts at Uncle Pete Official on Facebook in one post. More Classic Punk Specials will be coming soon!!!

THE UNCLE PETE SHOW CLASSIC PUNK SPECIAL – PART 1 (COMPLETE SHOW FROM 8/16/89)!!!

THE UNCLE PETE CLASSIC PUNK SPECIAL – PART ONE – AUGUST 16, 1989!!! (COMPLETE SHOW)

(NOW CONTAINS THE WHOLE SHOW!!!)

Here it is! A collection of sounds not seeing the light of day in almost 31 years! (well, except on certain select tape decks!)  It’s The Uncle Pete Classic Punk Special – Part One, original air date August 16, 1989 on WHRW, 90.5 FM. This was the first special EVER on The Uncle Pete Show. And in accordance to the official U.P.S. Classic Punk Special rules, it featured exclusively music in a punk-type vein that was over 10 years old. So all the songs were released prior to 1979.

Punk was just a teenager at the time, but there was so much great punk music coming out that in trying to keep up with the new stuff, some of the roots old stuff wasn’t getting the airplay it deserved. So, The Uncle Pete Show Classic Punk Special was born to take care of that!

The show was recorded straight to 3 cassette tapes and these installments represent sides A and B of all 3 tapes. You’ll notice a blank in the middle of the audio files. That’s where the tapes were flipped from side A to side B. These hunks – and the whole show – contains many songs that have become punk standards and a few you may not hear very often. Like some of my favorite love songs of all time: “Sit On My Face Stevie Nicks” by The Rotters and “I’m In Love With Your Mom” by VOM.  And some from lesser know names like the Maniacs, the Pigs, Rachel Sweet, and The Radiators From Space.

There’s a playlist for all 3 parts at Uncle Pete Official on Facebook in 3 separate posts. More Classic Punk Specials will be coming soon!!!
